In the aftermath of the January 2011 flooding in the eastern region of Sri Lanka, many people were deprived of clean drinking water due to the severe contamination of wells in the area.
CandleAid, through a generous donation made by the Lanka Lions of Dubai, was able to fund the cleaning of 597 wells in the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa. The implementation of this project was by the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency (RCCR) and the ground work was coordinated by the Community Development Environment Protect Society (CDEPS).
Lanka Lions of Dubai raised funds for flood relief through a charity drive organised by them on the 4th of February 2011 and a sum of LKR 1,226,125 was remitted for the above project. The project was successfully completed on the 30th of April 2011.
