These are some of CandleAid’s past projects that we have completed. 

A Place to Sleep

This is a project under COTC for the girls in Karuna Nilayam Home. These girls were displaced during the civil war and the building was badly damaged. CandleAid sponsored fifty beds and fifty mattresses for the girls in Karuna Nilayam Home.

Anjali Aham Computer Center

Anjali Aham, a Psychological Counseling Center serves people mainly children of families affected by the 30 year civil war in Sri Lanka and the Tsunami that devastated the country in 2004. CandleAid managed to get the Lanka Lions of Dubai to sponsor the salaries of the 18 teachers who worked there.

Cancer Ward

CandleAid completely renovated and refurbished Ward No. 14, the female surgical ward at Maharagama Cancer Hospital. It was formally opened in February 2000. Since then, our coordinators have been making regular and periodic visits to the ward to ascertain the needs of the ward and its patients.

Children of the Conflict (COTC)

From Jaffna to Batticoloa, CandleAid has opened a total of 38 libraries in schools and community centres. These are done in areas such as Vadukoddai, Karaveddy, Kaithadi, Thiriyai etc.

Flood Relief - Well Cleaning Project

In the aftermath of flooding in the eastern region of Sri Lanka, many people were deprived of clean drinking water due to the severe contamination of wells in the area. CandleAid, through a generous donation made by the Lanka Lions of Dubai, was able to fund the cleaning of 597 wells in the districts of Ampara and Batticaloa.

Life Line Project

During the civil war, CandleAid conducted the “Lifeline Project” to assist survivors of violence. It was designed to help those devastated by random violence to regain and rebuild their lives.

CandleAid organised a small donation for Palutawa Primary School.

CandleAid distributed school books and stationery to the 451 children of the above estate school.

Helen Sampson, a CandleAid supporter in Singapore, facilitated her children’s school to collect money for a project in Sri Lanka. Their donation was utilized to help a preschool in Urubokka catering to children from low income families.

CandleAid and its generous donors contributed the money and the roofing sheets were purchased and given to the school where they have been used in the construction of the required classroom.

Secret Santa 2014

Last Christmas, CandleAid Lanka did something very special for the families in our Food Programme. CandleAid initiated a new project to give to the underprivileged during Christmas. We reached out to sponsors and donors, asking them to donate to underprivileged families.
